Increased Transparency in Federal Spending: Disclosure of Public Program Costs.
This Act mandates that federal agencies and entities using public funds (including local governments and grant recipients) must clearly inform citizens about the exact amount of federal money allocated to a specific program or activity. This ensures citizens have greater knowledge of how their tax dollars are spent, increasing accountability over public finances. This information must be disclosed in statements, press releases, and documents describing the project, with an exception for very short communications (under 280 characters).
Key points
Mandatory Cost Disclosure: Every project funded by federal money must clearly state the percentage and dollar amount sourced from the federal budget.
Funding Transparency: Information must also be provided on the percentage and dollar amount of funding coming from non-governmental sources.
Oversight and Reporting: The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will annually review compliance by agencies and recipients, and the findings will be made publicly available.
Anonymous Reporting: Citizens will be able to anonymously report communications that fail to meet these transparency requirements, facilitating enforcement.
