Ending Congressional Pensions: New Retirement Rules for Lawmakers.

This bill aims to terminate automatic enrollment in traditional federal pension systems (CSRS and FERS) for Members of Congress, excluding the Vice President. New lawmakers will not be covered by these defined benefit plans, potentially reducing long-term taxpayer liabilities. Current members have a 90-day window to choose to remain in the existing system, and their previously accrued rights are protected.
Key points
Government contributions and deductions for traditional congressional pensions will cease for future Members of Congress.
Members retain the right to participate in the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), a defined contribution retirement plan.
Retirement rights earned by current members before the law's enactment remain fully protected.
