Expanded Family Leave: Care and Involvement for Broader Family

This act broadens family leave rights, allowing employees to care for a wider range of relatives, including domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, and siblings. It also introduces a new type of leave for parental involvement in children's and grandchildren's educational and extracurricular activities, and for routine family medical needs.
Key points
Ability to take leave to care for a domestic partner, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and other individuals with close family-like bonds.
Introduction of additional leave (up to 24 hours annually) for participating in children's and grandchildren's school and extracurricular activities.
New leave also covers medical and dental appointments for oneself, children, domestic partner, or grandchildren, and care for elderly individuals with close family-like bonds.
Federal employees also gain these same expanded leave rights.
