New rules make it easier for farmers and forest owners to access funds for disaster recovery, such as after fires or floods. They will be able to receive a portion of the funds upfront, speeding up the restoration of damaged land and infrastructure. The act also covers damages caused by non-natural wildfires, including those started by the federal government.
Key points
Farmers can receive up to 75% of payments upfront for repairing fences and other farmland damage.
Private forest owners can receive up to 75% of emergency measure costs upfront.
Assistance programs now include damages from non-natural wildfires, including those caused by the federal government.
