Scientific Integrity Act: Protecting Research and Public Information
This act aims to ensure that government decisions are based on reliable scientific data, free from political or financial pressures. It introduces rules that protect scientists and their discoveries, and facilitates public access to scientific information. This way, citizens can have greater trust in the information that affects their health, environment, and safety.
Key points
Federal agencies must adopt and enforce scientific integrity policies, which will be publicly available.
Suppressing, altering, or delaying scientific findings without merit is prohibited.
Federal scientists gain the right to freely publish and communicate their findings, participate in conferences, and collaborate with other scientists.
Scientific Integrity Officers will be appointed in each agency to oversee compliance with these rules and handle complaints.
Training programs for agency employees on scientific ethics and integrity, as well as dispute resolution procedures, will be established.
