Tax Credit for Water Filters: Cleaner Water at Home

This new law introduces a tax credit for individuals purchasing and installing water filtration systems in their homes. The aim is to encourage improvements in drinking water quality, potentially impacting residents' health and safety. Citizens can recover a portion of their expenses for such systems.
Key points
You can get a 20% credit for water filter purchases for your primary residence.
You can get a 10% credit for water filter purchases for your secondary residence.
The maximum tax credit is $2,500 per year and can be carried forward if not fully used.
The credit applies to systems removing at least 90% of lead, PFAS, and PFOA from drinking water, but excludes maintenance and replacement parts.
These changes apply to tax years beginning after December 31, 2024.
