Renewable Energy Development on Public Lands: Revenue Sharing and Environmental Protection.
This act aims to accelerate wind and solar energy development on federal lands. It introduces a new revenue distribution system, with portions going to states and counties, and a significant part dedicated to environmental protection and streamlining permit processes. 25% of revenues from wind and solar projects on federal lands will go directly to states, and another 25% to counties where projects are located.
25% of revenues will be used to expedite renewable energy permits and support federal and state agencies.
A Renewable Energy Resource Conservation Fund will be established, receiving 25% of revenues, to protect wildlife habitats, migration corridors, wetlands, and improve recreational access to federal lands.
Owners of existing projects who applied before December 19, 2016, will pay rents and fees under previous rates.
