Financial Aid for Border Communities' Security Efforts

This act aims to reimburse cities and counties near the Mexico border for security expenses. Local governments can receive up to $500,000 annually to cover costs related to border protection, including extra pay for local law enforcement. However, these funds cannot be used for immigrant assistance like housing or healthcare.
Key points
Communities within 200 miles of the Mexico border can apply for reimbursement of border security costs.
The maximum grant amount is $500,000 per year for each community.
Funds cannot be used for immigrant aid, including legal representation, education, housing, food, or healthcare.
So-called "sanctuary jurisdictions" (those limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities) are not eligible for this support.
