Ending preferential treatment for donor and alumni children in college admissions

This act aims to make college admissions fairer. Colleges receiving federal student aid will no longer be able to give preferential treatment to applicants simply because their parents are donors or alumni. This means that chances of getting into college will depend more on achievements and qualifications, rather than family connections.
Key points
Colleges cannot favor applicants whose parents are donors or alumni.
The changes aim to increase equal opportunities in the college admissions process.
The provisions will take effect in the second academic year after enactment.
