Free Breast Exams: No More Out-of-Pocket Costs for Diagnosis

This new law aims to eliminate additional costs, such as deductibles or co-payments, for diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations. This means health insurance plans will have to cover these exams in full, making early breast cancer detection more accessible and reducing financial burdens for patients. The changes will take effect from January 1, 2026.
Key points
No extra charges: Health insurance plans will not be able to charge for diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations.
Increased access: This will make important screening and diagnostic tests more accessible, regardless of financial situation.
Applies to all plans: The changes will cover both group and individual plans, including high-deductible health plans (HSA).
