Empty Lots to Housing: New Rules for Property Transfer

This act allows the transfer of unused public lands, previously acquired with federal assistance, for the development of housing near public transportation. The goal is to increase the availability of housing, especially affordable units, for lower-income families. Citizens may gain access to new, more affordable housing in convenient locations.
Key points
Unused public lands can be transferred for housing development.
At least 40% of new housing units must be reserved for families with incomes below 60% of the area median income, with 20% of those for families below 30%.
Rent for these units cannot exceed 30% of the family's adjusted income.
