Easier Access and Support for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education

This new law makes it easier for students with disabilities to access colleges and receive support. Colleges will need to accept various documents proving disability and clearly inform about available accommodations. This will increase their chances of academic success and help them and their families plan for the future.
Key points
Colleges must accept a wider range of documents to prove disability, including old Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or professional evaluations.
Colleges must clearly explain their accommodation eligibility process and make this information easily available to students, parents, and faculty, including on their websites.
The act authorizes funding for a national center providing information and technical support for postsecondary students with disabilities.
Colleges will collect and report data on students with disabilities, including those receiving accommodations and degrees awarded, to help assess support effectiveness.
