National Guard Reimbursement: New Rules for States

This act changes the rules for funding the National Guard. If the National Guard is called into federal service due to state negligence, the state will have to reimburse the federal government for the costs incurred. This could impact state budgets and potentially public services.
Key points
States may be required to reimburse the federal government for National Guard deployments if the deployment resulted from state negligence.
The President can waive the reimbursement requirement in cases of extreme financial hardship or when the Guard protects federal property.
The act is retroactive to June 1, 2025, applying to all subsequent National Guard deployments.
