Ensuring Full-Service Hospital Care Access for Veterans in Every State.

This law aims to guarantee that veterans in the 48 contiguous states have access to at least one full-service Veterans Health Administration (VHA) hospital within their state. If a VHA facility is unavailable, comparable medical services must be provided through contracts with local private healthcare providers. This change is designed to improve the quality and standards of care by ensuring easier access to necessary hospital services for veterans.
Key points
Veterans in each of the 48 contiguous states are guaranteed access to a full-service VHA hospital or equivalent contracted care within their state boundaries.
The goal is to reduce travel distance and improve the quality of hospital and medical services provided to veterans.
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs must report to Congress within one year on compliance and the effect of this requirement on improving care standards.
