New Visa Rules: Disclosing Chinese Funding for Students and Exchange Visitors

This act introduces new requirements for individuals applying for F, M (student) and J (exchange visitor) visas to the U.S. They will need to disclose if they receive funds from the Chinese government, the Chinese Communist Party, or entities controlled by them. Failure to disclose such funds could lead to visa revocation, directly impacting their ability to study or participate in exchange programs in the U.S.
Key points
Mandatory disclosure of funds from the Chinese government or Chinese Communist Party for F, M, and J visa applicants.
The disclosure requirement also applies to spouses and minor children of these visa applicants.
Individuals already holding valid visas must report such funds within 180 days of the act's enactment.
Failure to report received funds can result in visa revocation, regardless of when the visa was issued.
