Ally's Act: Hearing Device Coverage in Private Health Plans

The Ally's Act mandates private health insurance plans to cover hearing devices and related services. This means individuals requiring auditory implants, their maintenance, repairs, assessments, and rehabilitation will have these costs covered, significantly reducing their financial burden. These changes are set to take effect from January 1, 2026.
Key points
Mandatory coverage for auditory implants (e.g., cochlear, bone conduction) and external sound processors by private insurance.
Coverage also includes maintenance, repairs, and replacement of devices every 5 years.
Costs for comprehensive hearing assessments, pre-operative medical assessments, surgery, post-operative visits, and aural rehabilitation will also be covered.
Insurers cannot deny coverage if a physician or audiologist determines the service is medically necessary.
Financial requirements and treatment limitations for these services cannot be more restrictive than for other medical benefits.
