Easier SNAP Access for Students

This new law makes it easier for students to access the SNAP food assistance program by removing previous restrictions. More students will now be able to receive support for food purchases, potentially improving their financial and health situations. The changes will take effect on January 2, 2026.
Key points
Students enrolled at least half-time in any recognized school, training program, or institution of higher education will be eligible for SNAP food assistance.
Provisions that previously disqualified students from SNAP, unless they met very specific requirements, have been removed.
