Safe Air on Airplanes: New Cabin Air Quality Standards

This act aims to improve the quality of air we breathe during airplane flights. It introduces new rules for ventilation systems to protect passengers and crew from potentially harmful fumes. This means that in the future, air travel will be safer in terms of cabin air quality.
Key points
New turbine and turbo-prop aircraft designs will be prohibited from using "bleed air" systems (air taken directly from the engine).
All newly manufactured aircraft with "bleed air" systems must be fitted with special filters or air cleaning devices designed to remove harmful oil fumes.
A gradual phase-out of "bleed air" systems in the manufacture of existing aircraft types, with a complete prohibition after 30 years from the act's enactment.
