Flood Map Improvement: Enhanced Data and Public Access
This Act aims to improve the accuracy and accessibility of flood risk maps, helping citizens better assess the threat to their properties. It introduces new standards for mapping data, including parcel and address information, and provides public online access to detailed flood data. This will enable residents to make more informed decisions regarding insurance and safety.
Key points
Flood maps will include more precise data, such as addresses and parcel identifiers, making it easier to assess risk for specific properties.
A public online database will be created, allowing anyone to check flood risks, insurance zones, and other detailed information about their property.
River monitoring systems will be modernized and expanded to provide faster and more accurate water flow data, improving flood forecasting.
Flood risk maps will be regularly updated (at least every 5 years) to reflect the latest data and changes on the ground.
A portion of the National Flood Insurance Fund revenue will be allocated to create and maintain current maps, ensuring continuous funding for these activities.
