New rules set strict deadlines for counting votes and certifying federal election results. This aims to boost confidence in the election process by ensuring quick and transparent completion of vote tabulation. Citizens can expect election outcomes to be known much faster than before.

Ballots in federal elections must be counted by 10:00 p.m. on election day.
Official federal election results must be certified no later than 48 hours after election day.
Exceptions to these deadlines are only allowed for genuine emergencies or technical difficulties, such as election equipment malfunctions.
