Easier Early Release from Supervised Supervision and Increased Judicial Flexibility.

This Act reforms post-imprisonment supervision rules, creating a presumption for early termination for individuals who demonstrate good conduct and pose no public safety risk. The goal is to reduce the heavy workload of probation officers, save court resources, and improve the reintegration of former inmates. Judges also gain more discretion in handling minor supervision violations, moving away from mandatory penalties.
Key points
Early Termination: Individuals under supervision can seek termination after serving 50% (or 66.6% for certain offenses) of their term if they show good behavior and compliance, without needing 'extraordinary circumstances.'
Judicial Discretion: Judges receive greater flexibility regarding supervision violations, such as simple drug possession, reducing mandatory re-imprisonment and focusing supervision on those who need it most.
Earned Time Credits: Prisoners not sentenced to supervised release can now use earned time credits to be released up to 12 months earlier.
