Harsher Penalties for Financial Fraud and Impersonation Using Artificial Intelligence.

This Act significantly increases prison sentences and fines for individuals committing financial crimes (like mail, wire, or bank fraud, and money laundering) with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence. The goal is to protect citizens from sophisticated new threats, such as AI-generated voice deepfakes used to steal money or sensitive information. The law also ensures that legitimate satire and parody using AI are protected, provided they include clear disclosure.
Key points
Increased Sentences: Maximum prison sentences for bank fraud using AI can increase up to 30 years, and up to 20 years for other major financial frauds.
Targeting Deepfakes: Higher specific penalties are introduced for impersonating federal officials using AI technology, often used to deceive citizens or businesses.
Financial Deterrence: Fines for money laundering involving AI can reach $1 million or three times the value of the funds involved, whichever is greater.
