Pilot Program: Monthly Food Coupons for Junior Enlisted Military Members.

This bill authorizes the Department of Defense to launch a one-year pilot program. The goal is to assess if providing monthly food coupons helps junior enlisted service members, especially those living alone on base, access affordable and healthy food options at military commissaries. This benefit supplements existing food allowances.
Key points
Junior enlisted members of the Armed Forces may receive a monthly coupon to purchase food exclusively at military commissaries.
The coupons are supplementary to existing food assistance and cannot be used to buy alcohol or tobacco products.
The pilot program will run for up to one year at two selected military installations to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing food insecurity among these members.
