Utility Executive Bonus Limits Tied to Customer Rate Hikes and Inflation.

This legislation aims to protect consumers from excessive increases in electricity and natural gas rates. Executive bonuses at certain utilities are restricted if customer rate increases exceed the rate of inflation. If a utility violates this rule, the forfeited bonus money will be distributed directly to customers as individual payments.
Key points
Executive bonuses for covered utilities are only allowed if customer rate increases do not exceed the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) inflation rate.
If a utility violates the bonus limits, the forfeited amount is divided and issued as a direct payment (stimulus check) to every customer.
The maximum allowable bonus is capped at 25% of the median annual compensation of non-executive employees.
