Federal Housing Aid for Students Living in Campus Housing

This Act removes the existing prohibition preventing students from receiving federal housing assistance (Section 8). It allows eligible students residing in on-campus housing to receive support for accommodation costs. Crucially, this housing assistance will not be counted as income when determining eligibility for other federal student financial aid or when calculating child support obligations, protecting students from losing other benefits.
Key points
Students eligible for tenant-based housing assistance (Section 8) can now receive this support, even while enrolled in higher education and living in campus facilities.
The housing aid received will not reduce eligibility for federal grants or student loans, as it is explicitly excluded from income calculations for financial aid purposes.
The assistance is specifically targeted at students living in housing facilities maintained by their educational institution.
