Mandating Anti-Impairment Technology in New Vehicles to Combat Drunk Driving

This legislation requires manufacturers who produced over 250,000 vehicles in the second most recent calendar year to introduce at least 20,000 vehicles annually that meet specific impaired driving prevention standards. These requirements remain in effect until the rule required under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act becomes effective.
Key points
Covered manufacturers must sell or import annually 10,000 vehicles meeting DADSS specifications and 10,000 vehicles complying with European New Car Assessment Programme standards.
The mandate takes effect not later than 180 days after the date of enactment.
The bill amends civil penalty provisions to apply to manufacturers who fail to comply with these new safety standards.
