Extending Consumer Protection and Oversight to Buy Now, Pay Later Loans.

This Act extends crucial consumer rights, previously limited to credit cards, to the popular "Buy Now, Pay Later" (BNPL) loans. This means consumers using BNPL for purchases will gain the right to dispute charges or withhold payment if goods are faulty, similar to credit card protections. Furthermore, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will gain explicit authority to supervise BNPL providers.
Key points
BNPL customers receive rights similar to credit card users regarding disputes over faulty goods or services.
Companies offering BNPL (defined as 4 or fewer interest-free installments) will be subject to Federal supervision by the CFPB.
New rules will be established for handling billing errors related to BNPL loans.
