Enhanced Pay and Benefits for Federal Wildland and Structural Firefighters
This act significantly improves working and living conditions for federal wildland and structural firefighters. It introduces higher pay rates, hazardous duty pay, paid rest leave, and comprehensive health and retirement support. These changes aim to better compensate and protect firefighters, enhancing their financial security and well-being.

Pay Increase: Federal wildland firefighters will receive special base pay rates, increasing their basic salary by 1.5% to 42%, depending on their grade.
Incident Premium Pay: A daily premium pay for wildland fire incident response will be introduced, with an annual cap of $9,000.
Rest and Recuperation Leave: Wildland firefighters will be entitled to paid leave for rest and recuperation after completing incident service.
Health Support: A database for chronic diseases, a mental health support program (including 7 days of paid mental health leave annually), and recognition of PTSD in workers' compensation will be established.
Retirement Changes: Wildland firefighter service will be creditable for retirement, and overtime pay will be included in basic pay for retirement calculations. Disability annuity access for job-related diseases will be eased.
Pay Parity: Federal structural firefighters will receive comparable pay and benefits to federal wildland firefighters.
Additional Benefits: Annual pay adjustments linked to inflation, recruitment and retention bonuses, housing allowances, and a career transition tuition assistance program will be implemented.
