Mail-in voting: new rules and restrictions on ballot distribution

This law changes how citizens receive mail-in ballots for federal elections. States will no longer be allowed to send them automatically to all voters without a specific request.
Key points
States are prohibited from sending mail-in ballots to voters who did not request them.
Voters must submit a written or electronic request to receive a ballot by mail.
The request must include a statement under penalty of perjury that the voter meets specific criteria.
Mail-in voting is limited to groups like seniors (65+), people with disabilities, students away from home, and military members.
Permanent mail-in ballot lists will be restricted to those who continue to meet eligibility requirements.
