Linking Police Grants to Cooperation with Immigration Authorities

This bill requires local law enforcement agencies to partner with federal immigration services (ICE) to remain eligible for federal community policing grants. Failure to cooperate will result in the loss of funding for local safety programs.
Key points
Agencies must sign an agreement with ICE to receive COPS grants.
A 180-day deadline is set for signing the cooperation agreement.
The new rules apply to grant applications starting in fiscal year 2027.
