Tax Credit for Wildfire Home Protection Measures
This new law introduces a tax credit for individuals who spend money on making their homes more resistant to wildfires, especially in high-risk areas. It aims to help citizens cover the costs of improving their property's safety. The credit is available for homeowners in specific wildfire-prone zones.
Key points
You can get a tax credit of 25% of your qualified wildfire mitigation expenses, up to a maximum of $25,000 per year.
Eligible expenses include fire-resistant roofs, walls, windows, sprinkler systems, and removing flammable vegetation around your home.
To qualify, your home must be in an area that has experienced a wildfire in the last 10 years, received FEMA assistance for a wildfire, or been designated as a community disaster resilience zone due to wildfire.
The credit applies to your primary residence and does not cover expenses already reimbursed by federal, state, or local governments.
This tax credit will no longer be available for expenses incurred after December 31, 2032.
