Free Breast Exams: No More Costs for Cancer Diagnosis

This new law aims to improve access to breast cancer diagnosis. Starting January 1, 2026, health insurance plans will be prohibited from charging out-of-pocket costs for diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations, such as mammograms or MRIs. This means citizens will not have to pay for these tests themselves, potentially leading to earlier detection and treatment of cancer.
Key points
No cost-sharing for diagnostic and supplemental breast exams: Insurers cannot charge deductibles, coinsurance, or copayments for these services.
Applies to group and individual plans: The changes cover a wide range of health insurance coverages.
Improved access to testing: This aims to remove financial barriers to early breast cancer diagnosis.
Effective January 1, 2026: The changes will apply to plan years beginning on or after this date.
