Food Assistance Stability: Excluding Training Income from SNAP Eligibility Calculations
This Act amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to exclude certain payments received by household members from income calculations. Under the new rules, income, allowances, or earnings from most work programs, employment and training programs, vocational rehabilitation, or refugee employment programs will not be counted as household income. However, specific veterans' educational assistance programs are explicitly excepted from this exclusion.
Key points
Income and payments from most job training, vocational rehabilitation, and refugee employment programs will be excluded from household income under the Food and Nutrition Act.
The exclusion applies to programs such as those defined in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Specific educational assistance programs for veterans, such as the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance, are exceptions to this new exclusion rule.
