Mail-in Ballot Improvements: Faster Processing and Tracking

This act aims to streamline the mail-in voting process for federal elections. It introduces changes to ensure faster processing and delivery of ballots, as well as easier tracking. Citizens can expect greater assurance that their mailed vote will be counted on time.
Key points
Mail-in ballots will be processed by the Postal Service on the same day they are received.
Each return envelope for a ballot must include a special barcode for tracking, unless the state provides an alternative tracking system.
The Postal Service will be required to postmark ballot envelopes with the mailing date.
Mail-in ballots will be treated as First-Class Mail, and completed ballots will be sent postage-free.
The Postal Service cannot implement operational changes that would hinder prompt delivery of election mail within 120 days before a federal election.
A uniform deadline for accepting mailed ballots is established: they will be counted if postmarked on or before election day and received by election officials within 7 days after the election.
