Total Asbestos Ban: Protecting Public Health from 2025

This act introduces a complete ban on the manufacture, processing, use, and distribution of commercial asbestos and products containing it, aiming to protect citizens' health from its harmful effects. This means that, from the effective date, most asbestos-containing products will be removed from the market, though some exceptions exist for the chlor-alkali industry and national security. Consequently, citizens will face reduced exposure to asbestos-related diseases.
Key points
Asbestos Production and Sale Ban: Effective from the enactment date, the manufacture, processing, use, and commercial distribution of asbestos and asbestos-containing products will be prohibited, enhancing health safety.
Chlor-Alkali Industry Exceptions: Chlor-alkali facilities can continue to use asbestos for diaphragm manufacturing until January 1, 2030, allowing time for compliance with new regulations.
National Security Exemptions: The President may grant temporary exemptions from the ban if deemed essential for national security and no feasible alternatives exist, with maximum exposure reduction measures.
No Impact on Existing Installations: The ban does not apply to asbestos-containing products installed before the act's enactment date or materials solely for disposal purposes.
