It protects their private information, such as home addresses and phone numbers, from public disclosure by government agencies and data brokers. This ensures that citizens who are legislators or survivors can feel more secure, knowing their sensitive information is safeguarded from unauthorized access.

Government agencies are prohibited from publicly posting private information (e.g., home addresses, phone numbers) of Members of Congress, their families, staff, and survivors.
Data brokers are forbidden from selling or transferring private information of these protected individuals.
At-risk individuals can request removal of their information from public records and websites within 72 hours.
The act also protects information about children under 18, including school details and travel routes.
