Financial Relief and Protection for Federal Workers During Government Shutdowns.

This Act grants temporary financial and civil protections to federal employees and contractors who are furloughed or required to work without pay during a government shutdown or debt limit crisis. It shields them from immediate evictions, foreclosures, debt collection, and insurance lapses, ensuring stability until regular pay resumes. Utilizing these protections cannot be the sole basis for future adverse credit decisions.
Key points
Prohibits evictions and foreclosures on property (mortgages) without a court order during the shutdown and for 30 days afterward.
Allows federal workers to defer student loan payments, stops interest accrual, and prevents adverse credit reporting during the crisis period.
Protects essential insurance policies (health, life, auto) from termination due to non-payment of premiums during the covered period.
Allows deferral of federal income tax payments for up to 90 days after the shutdown ends, without penalties or interest.
