Financial support for veterans' families: burial allowance in State cemeteries.

This Act introduces a new plot allowance for spouses and children of veterans buried in State-owned cemeteries. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will pay the State, agency, or political subdivision $525 (subject to future increases) to cover the cost of the plot or interment. This change aims to ease the financial burden of burial expenses for veterans' families by providing direct support to the cemetery operators.
Key points
A new plot allowance of $525 (subject to adjustment) is established for spouses and children of veterans buried in State cemeteries.
The allowance is paid directly by the VA to the State, agency, or political subdivision that owns the cemetery.
Eligible individuals include spouses (including surviving spouses who remarried), minor children (under 21, or 23 if pursuing education), and, at the Secretary's discretion, unmarried adult children of eligible veterans.
The amendments take effect upon enactment and apply to deaths occurring on or after that date.
