Expanded Family Leave: Care for Loved Ones and Child Involvement

This act broadens family leave rights, allowing employees to care for a wider range of relatives, including domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, and siblings. Additionally, it introduces a new type of leave for participating in children's and grandchildren's educational and extracurricular activities, as well as for routine family medical care needs, making it easier to balance work and family responsibilities.
Key points
Expanded Family Definition: You can take leave to care for a domestic partner, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and other individuals with a close family-like bond.
New Parental Involvement and Family Wellness Leave: You can take up to 24 hours of additional leave per year (maximum 4 hours every 30 days) to participate in children's and grandchildren's school or extracurricular activities, or for family medical appointments and elder care.
Employment and Benefits Protection: Your job and benefits are protected while taking this expanded leave, similar to current family leave provisions.
Applies to Federal Employees: The same rules and leave expansions will apply to employees working for the federal government.
