Ban on Importing Key Minerals from Russia

A new law prohibits the import of platinum, nickel, and copper from Russia into the United States. This aims to weaken the Russian economy and is a response to military actions. The ban will remain in effect until hostilities in Ukraine cease, with the possibility of resumption if they restart.
Key points
Starting 90 days after enactment, the U.S. will ban imports of platinum, nickel, and copper from Russia.
The ban also covers minerals exchanged or obtained to circumvent the rules.
The prohibition will end one year after the President certifies the end of hostilities in Ukraine, but can resume if Russia restarts hostilities within 3 years.
The President cannot waive this prohibition.
