Preventing Antisemitic Harassment on Campus: New Rules and Penalties

This act aims to strengthen protections for students against religious, particularly antisemitic, discrimination and harassment on college campuses. It introduces new definitions, financial penalties for institutions failing to address such incidents, and increases oversight of anti-discrimination compliance. Citizens can expect colleges to be more accountable for providing a safe learning environment.
Key points
Expands protection against discrimination in federally funded programs to include discrimination based on religion.
Introduces a definition of antisemitism, covering hatred toward Jews and its rhetorical and physical manifestations.
Colleges found in violation of antisemitic discrimination rules two or three times within 5 years will face significant fines, calculated as a percentage of their federal financial assistance.
Institutions found in violation must notify all enrolled students, faculty, and staff of the finding.
Courts may appoint a monitor to review and report on the implementation of remedies for violations.
