Extended transport grants for rural veterans accessing healthcare until 2029.

This Act extends and modifies the transportation grant program for veterans, making it easier for them to access healthcare, especially in rural areas. The program will run until 2029 and, for the first time, includes Tribal and Native Hawaiian organizations as eligible recipients. The maximum grant amount is increased, particularly for counties with hard-to-reach communities, directly improving mobility for veterans living far from medical centers.
Key points
Program Extension: The veterans' transportation grant program is extended through fiscal year 2029.
Increased Funding Potential: The maximum grant amount is increased to $50,000, with an additional 50% increase possible for counties with more than five communities that are off the road system.
New Eligible Recipients: Tribal organizations and Native Hawaiian organizations are now explicitly included as entities that can receive these grants, broadening the reach of assistance.
Appropriations: Funding for the program is secured for fiscal years 2025 through 2029 with "such sums as may be necessary."
